Lyn Jones introduces John Naughton who will examine the problem of manipulating a human activity system, the U.K. economy. Naughton briefly describes the system. He then goes on the apply the systems aspects of understanding, monitoring and manipulating to the U.K. economy. Brian Henry, a former head of a Treasury statistical department discusses the problem of understanding the U.K. economy. He gives an example to illustrate his points. Naughton and Henry next discuss the problem of monitoring the U.K. economy. Henry gives an example. Naughton and Henry next examine the problem of manipulating the U.K. economy. Henry gives an example. Lyn Jones sums up with a discussion of some problems of working with human activity systems.
