Footage description: George Clark, Robin Kirton and Granville Price make brief statements on community participation in the Golborne area of West London. Nigel Cross introduces the programme with a description of the Golborne area. Film shots of Swinbrooke Road and surrounds while he talks. Film shots of the Westway opening ceremony and some of the community protests over this motorway. Nigel Cross explains how Westway affected the redevelopment of the Golborne area. Nigel Cross and Robin Kirton (G.L.C. Architect) with a model of the proposed housing redevelopment scheme for Golborne. Kirton explains how the development will be phased to allow residents to remain in the area. Nigel Cross and Len Bennett (G.L.C. Director of Housing Management), explain what is meant by a housing problem area. They then go on to discuss the contribution of the motorway to the problem at Golborne. Bennett goes on to explain how the G.L.C. went about discovering what the residents of Golborne wanted in the way of redevelopment. Nigel Cross, Jo Ahearn (Neighbourhood Council) George Clark (Neighbourhood Council) and John Billett at the Malvern public house, discuss the community spirit in Golborne. Nigel Cross and Chris Gaster (Community Housing Officer), in Swinbrooke Road, discuss the role of the G.L.C. Community Housing Centre as an institution which allows community participation in redevelopment decisions. John Billett and Len Bennett discuss representation, or lack of it, by residents in working out the development scheme. Granville Price (ex-member of the Neighbourhood Council) explains why he thinks the redevelopment scheme has been a failure and what should take its place. Len Bennett and Robin Kirton, with the development model, discuss the amount of influence the residents were able to exert on the redevelopment plans. John Billett and George Clark, in the pub, continue to discuss the influence of residents on redevelopment plans. Len Bennett, Granville Price, Joe Ahearne and George Clark discuss the effect of the whole participation exercise on the Golborne community.
