Description
Legislation is obviously one of the ways by which tight control is kept on environmental matters relating to public health. This programme is about the way such legislation arises, is drafted withi...n a Government department and the political constraints on its implementation. In the programme Dr. Andrew Porteous, Course Team Chairman, interviews Gordon Oakes, MP, Under Secretary of State, Department of the Environment - a Junior Minister, in the present Administration, and Miss Kruse, Assistant Secretary, Department of the Environment - a Civil Servant, about Part 1 of the Control of Pollution Act with special reference to Waste Disposal policy.

Andrew Porteous interviews Gordon Oakes, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the DoE, who describes the aspects of his job relating to waste disposal, and to Pamela Kruse, Assistant Secretary, Waste Disposal Division, DoE, who describes the practical advantages of Acts of Parliament over other forms of legislation in the control of pollution.
