Description
The previous programme in this course is on Brighton Marina and the local government planning system and dealt with the inputs and outputs of the system. This programme concentrates on one of the c...ritical areas in the system, communication between the components of the system, in particular the links between the developer, the architect, the local planning officers, the planning committee, and the public. Since the Brighton Marina is at an early stage of planning and development, the programme looks at a completed development, the Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham. The history of this is presented by E. S. P. Evans, who was then City Planning Officer. Professor Beishon then discusses with the developer, the architect, and the Chairman of the Planning Committee some of the problems they faced and some of the changes that were made as the development progressed, attempting to show how these were affected by the different objectives of those concerned and the degree of successful communication between them. Finally, Professor Beishon discusses with Mr. David Hodges the architect's relationship with his client and with the public.
