Tom Burke (FOE) and Alan Dobie (OU) introduce the programme. They explain, briefly, the role that Friends of the Earth (FOE) played in forcing a public enquiry. Film of a meeting of FOE staff at their Soho office. The group is discussing ways of mobilizing public opinion over the Windscale issue. Further shots of the FOE meeting. The group discusses its strategy for the upcoming public inquiry. Film of the Windscale plant showing nuclear fuels being processed. Alan Dobie (v/o) explains what is done at Windscale and also what the Inquiry's brief was. Czech Conray (FOE) sets out, briefly, FOE's strategy for the Inquiry. FOE's barrister, Raymond Kidwell, Q.C. joins in, then back to Conroy. Shots of the FOE group meeting at Windscale to discuss tactics over a particular issue which arose during the Inquiry. Alan Dobie (voice over) gives the background, at intervals, during the discussion. Shots of Ian Breach, a journalist, phoning in his report of the Inquiry proceedings for the day. He then explains how he tries to get a balanced view of the proceedings. Czech Conroy suns up the attitude of FOE to British Nuclear Fuels after the Inquiry. He goes on to consider FOE's strategy after the Inquiry such as lobbying sympathetic M.P.'s. Shots of Conroy in the office of Robin Cook, M.P. The two discuss what future actions can be taken to influence the government on the nuclear fuel reprocessing issue. Alan Dobie and Tom Burke sum up. |
