Footage description: The programme opens with Margaret, who is severely handicapped as a result of cerebral palsy, explaining in interview that handicapped people have the same sexual and emotional feelings and needs as anyone else. Shots of Margaret and Willie, her handicapped fiancé, in wheelchairs moving along a street and then shopping in a supermarket. In voiceover Margaret describes the inaccurate opinions most people have of handicapped persons like herself. Film of Margaret and Willie at home painting at a table. In voice over Margaret talks of her relationship with Willie. Shots of Margaret helping Willie in voice and speech exercises. She explains how Willie's lack of speech can disguise his intelligence. Margaret and Willie receive a visitor and discuss their proposed marriage and possible difficulties that might arise. Margaret interviewing a handicapped woman who has been engaged for ten years but has not been allowed to marry by her family. They discuss reasons for this. Shots of Margaret and Willie shopping. In voice over Margaret talks of the ignorance of the public regarding the feelings of handicapped people. Willie with a young handicapped man who tells of how his parents prevented him marrying. Film of Margaret and Willie arriving at Margaret home. In voice over she explains the over-protective attitudes of many parents of handicapped people, and describes possible effects. She speaks of her own mother's more realistic attitude. Her mother, in voice-over, describes Margaret's need when a child for social contacts. Photographs of Margaret as a child. Small discussion group at Princess Marina Centre a residential centre for people with cerebral palsy. The group, which includes Willie and Margaret, discuss the problems that arise out of their relationships, particularly the hostility of their families. They discuss their own needs and desires, and ways of getting others to understand them. Film of two of the group being married in church. In voice-over Margaret explains her own need for love and companionship, and her determination to get what she wants. Different shots of Margaret and Willie at home: cooking, eating, watching TV, washing hair, bathing, in bed together. The programme ends with a poem by Willie, read over silhouettes of the buildings and grounds of the Princess Marina Centre.
