Footage description: The programme starts with film of Sidney Stringer School in Coventry, over which the headmaster, Geoffrey Holroyde, briefly describes both the school and his own background. In interview, he gives his views on the role of the headmaster. Teachers at different levels in the school's managerial hierarchy give their views on the way the school is organised, particularly with respect to the flow of information between staff. More teachers are interviewed about the school's management. A trainee teacher explains what is done to help her, and clips from a small staff meeting are shown. In interview, two sixth formers describe how students' views are represented in the school. A small boy from the Lower School describes their involvement in decision-making. Film of a Lower School staff-pupil meeting, over which a teacher describes the extent to which pupils are involved. Three pupils add their comments, Film of Indian girls dancing at a school concert, over which Holroyde outlines the ethnic composition of the school. An Indian student describes the contact the school has with the local Indian community. A teacher is observed trying to persuade an Indian parent to attend meetings at the school. In interview two English parents explain problems that arise out of teacher-parent meetings. Film of an indoor hockey match, played by local residents. In voice-over Holroyde briefly explains that the school is part of an urban community education project. An Indian hockey player gives his opinion of the community centre. Two members of the local Information Centre give their views on the Sidney Stringer Centre, and indicate some problems, Finally, Holroyde explains the difficulty of integrating the school and its community.
