Footage description: Over shots of a group discussion at Hastingsbury School, Derek Prior introduces the programme. The caption "Negotiating Goals" is displayed, and the group of students and two teachers discuss what their local guide should aim to achieve. Prior explains that each student has produced a goal resource grid. In this sequence the group together pool the ideas to produce one large grid which lists all local amenities to be investigated. Caption: "Working Groups". Small groups of students are observed discussing the detailed planning of the project. They work largely without the teachers. Caption: "Completing the Grid". After a day of gathering information the group discusses progress, together with the final version of the resource grid. Caption: "Using an Index". Members of the group describe their own activities aimed at collecting local information. Caption: "Development". Further discussion, on the subject of how to distribute the guide.
