Description
This programme looks at how language is acquired through joint attention (with a parent) to toys or other objects, and joint action with those objects. At a surprisingly early stage, a baby is alre...ady showing signs of advanced language skills, conversational turn-taking, directed gazes, etc. The programme uses slow motion film to analyse mother/child interactions and discusses current research on babies up to 2 years old with Dr Colwyn Trevarthen and Penelopy Hubley of Edinburgh University.
