Description
This programme looks at a legal judgement which has already been called a 'Landmark' decision in the history of Black English in the U.S.A. The judge found that the Black English venacular had beco...me a language barrier in the sense that teachers at Martin Luther King Junior Elementary School in Ann Arbor near Detroit did not take it into account in teaching a group of Black children to read and that this impeded the children's educational opportunities.
