Footage description: Brief sequence on the rate of change of the dollar against the mark in 1922. In a general way MacDonald looks at inflation in Britain since 1960. Various diagrams are shown. He mentions various hedges against inflation. He briefly looks at some possible reasons for inflation - money supply, Government expenditure, rising costs etc. MacDonald introduces the two interviewees, the first is Jenkins who is interviewed by Cuthbertson. Jenkins looks at the effects of costs, such as oil prices and trade union wages spirals. He touches briefly on the question of differentials and answers the question: what would you do as Chancellor? Biffen is interviewed by MacDonald and lays the blame for inflation on money supply and budget deficit. He refutes the idea of cost push inflation. He continues to discuss why he feels control of the money supply is essential, the effects of inflation and the possible future course in Britain. MacDonald sums up on some of the similarities of the two views mentioned in the programme. Credits.
