Description
How much people earn has been a matter of political concern for the last two hundred years. More recently it has come into the limelight as a result of Government efforts to redistribute income by... means of progressive taxation. But despite Government income statistics, many people have "hidden" incomes in the form of free houses, cars and so forth. At the other end of the scale many workers receive their take-home pay and nothing more. How did they come to such situations and what are their chances in the matter of consumption? This film, introduced by Dr. Eric Wade of the Open University, investigates the experiences, income and life-style of two people. One, until recently a farm labourer, receives less than the average wage and has five children. The other is a director of a market research company, has a joint income with his wife of six times the average wage, with perquisites.
