Footage description: Dr. Barshan introduces the programme and plays through the first bars of the Sonata. She then looks for changes of key, or modulation in this piece and examines the harmony for the first eight bars. Dr. Barshan uses the results of this examination to help build up a left hand part for the next eight bars. Patricia Howard introduces a special section on modulation in chorales. She works through several examples, with and without accidentals in order to show the problems involved. Credits.
