Footage description: Opening shots of Taby near Stockholm, showing the Fokus flats designed for an integrated community of disabled and non-disabled people Keith Livingstone introduces the Fokus in voice-over. Film of Borje Johansson, who is confined to a wheelchair, arriving at his Fokus flat. The kitchen is examined in detail and its features described in voice-over by Keith Livingstone. Borje gives his views on the kitchen to Livingstone. Peter Large, himself handicapped, interviews Borje about the Fokus flats. In particular they discuss integration of disabled and non-disabled people. Film showing the Fokus in detail, with Livingstone adding commentary in voice-over. He describes briefly some problems within the community. Ulla Linnander, a disabled mother, is interviewed by Large about the birth and care of her child. She discusses the reactions of other people to her having a baby. Ulla also describes her physical limitations, and how these affect her work as a mother and a house wife. Film of Ulla in her wheelchair shopping in the Fokus shopping centre, which is designed to accomodate disabled shoppers. Livingstone and Large add comments and explanations in voiceover. Shots of Ulla outside with a friend. In voiceover Large asks her about her social life. Film of Ulla arriving home, where she is interviewed by Large about her home helps. They also discuss her relationship with her nondisabled husband. Shots of the Fokus area. Large interviews Professor Sven-Olaf Brattgard, the Director of the Fokus Society. He explains the aims of the Fokus scheme. Another interview with Ulla, who gives her views of Brattgard's ideas. She expresses some disagreement with the implementation of his ideas within the Fokus. Interview with a non-disabled resident of the Fokus for her view of the scheme. Interview with Karl-Axel Bladh, architect of the Swedish Railways, who gives his views on the implication the Fokus has for architectural design in general. The programme concludes with an interview with Ulla. Again she expresses disillusionment, because of the lack of help for disabled people in many areas of Sweden. Closing shots of Stockholm panorama.
