This programme is an introduction to Roman wall painting. Colin Cunningham begins by looking at the garden room from the Empress Livia's country house at Prima Porta, and then concentrates on three... houses at Pompeii: the House of the Fruit Orchard, the House of Marcus Lucretias Fronto and the House of the Vettii. He demonstrates the interaction between complex decorative detail and simple underlying designs and examines the technique of wall building which made this decoration possible.
