Description
In this programme Tim Potter shows how roads have been important in the unification of Italy. He begins by describing the 3rd century B.C. hill town of Cosa, and its relationship in the local villa...s and their prosperous farmlands, showing in detail the villa Sette Finestre. He then takes the story forward and shows how the pattern of urbanization, the town plan itself, and the villas around the town had developed under the peace of stability that Augustus created. He uses Lucas Feroniae as the example of the Augustan town, and the villa of the Volusii the supporting villa/farm.
