Description
Henry Ford's Model T is the symbol of mass production. The car that brought transport to the masses, and ushered in the age of the automobile. But how did it happen? Ford followed a tradition of sc...ientific management, analysing work practice and reorganising so ast to reduce the need for skill and artisanship. A new style factory resulted, utilising such ideas as the standardisation of parts, and endless chain conveyor belts giving the workers simple repetitive tasks. But productivity increased enormously, and the price od a Model T was reduced to a level where even Ford's workers could by them. In 20 years 15 million wer built. Using location film at Ford's first factory in Detroit, archive film from Ford's own film unit and interviews with retired workers who built Model T's.
