Description
Set in the National Museum of abour History at Limehouse in London, this programme explores certain aspects of Victorian working class cultural attitudes by looking at the iconography and possible ...meanings of two trade union banners. The first from the 1860's belonged to the Operative Bricklayers Society (Watford branch), a respectable and skilled craft union. The second banner from the 1890's was made for the unskilled Dockers Union (Export branch) in the aftermath of the Dock Strike of 1889.
