Description
This programme looks at the wide variety of historical sources available to the historian. It opens with a comparison of three different inscriptions from Roman London - a tombstone, a building til...e, complete with graffiti and a fragment of an official inscription. This leads into a discussion of the King John Charter to the City of London. An inn sign reveals some living patterns in Georgian London, and fashion is shown to be an unwitting testimony to the Victorian way of life. Other Victorian items are also discussed - several personal documents, a published work, a presentation fire-engine, a toy theatre and music hall photo - in order to provide a fuller picture of Victorian London.
