Description
This programme is about the Lunar Society of Birmingham, which flourished from the 1760s until the 1810s. The society was characterised by an interest in scientific progress, with a strong element ...of radical politics and humanitarianism. The programme concentrates on three of its members; Matthew Boulton, Josiah Wedgewood and Erasmus Darwin. It traces their common interests, and the features of their thinking which linked them to the Enlightenment philosophies of continental Europe and Scotland.
