Description
Between 1496 and 1538, a major change of attitude towards public building and spaces took place in Venice and development took place around the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto. This contrasts with ...Antwerp which exploded outwards from the medieval core of the Grote Markt and cathedral. Both were of great commercial importance and exremely rich, both reached a peak of prosperity in the period and declined: one through Spanish conquest and the other due to exhausting wars and the development of new trade with the Americas.
