Description
In many aspects Hardwick Hall is a typical, though exceptionally well preserved, Elizabethan House. But in other respects it is unique - one of the most innovative houses of its date in Europe. Th...e factors which influenced its design, and the personality of its owner-builder Elizabeth, Countess of Shrewsbury, are examined in this programme as well as the supposed brilliance of Robert Smythson's architectural design.
