Description
The University of Salamanca was founded in the 13th century. By the 16th century it was one of the major European universities. In the early part of the century it was the centre of humanist learni...ng. Erasmus and Copernicus were on the syllabus. However, as the fear of the reformation spread through Europe, the teaching at Salamanca became more restrictive. As Spain's Empire expanded she needed more and more bureaucrats to run the Empire so the once broad based curriculum came to concentrate mainly on law.
