Description
This video examines the changing nature of religious broadcasting from 1945 to 1991. It concentrates on BBC output but includes important changes initiated by independent television. It examines th...e changes which have occurred in the content, style and aims of such religious broadcasting in the post-war period. The video is in documentary format with interviews with people involved in religious broadcasting intercut with extensive archive footage. Areas explored in the context of religious broadcasting are the daily service, the impact of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism, the start of regular weekly services by ITV, charismatic black-led churches, experience of the World Service in religious broadcasting, Judaism, Islam, evangelicals and the role of religion in wartime. the video concludes with a sequence about the continuing popularity of 'Songs of Praise'.
