Description
The layout and style of domestic buildings are evidence of the changing patterns of security and prosperity in different countries and regions. This programme examines how ancient house in Northumb...erland and Dumfriesshire were adapted or abandoned to meet new standards of comfort in the 17th century, made possible by the coming of peace to the borders region. But defensive features on houses were associated with social status and fashion as,much as with real or perceived threats, as we see from buildings in Co. Galway and Brittany.
