Description
Part 1: Henry VII Chapel, Westminster Abbey. The Lady Chapel was begun in 1503 by Henry VII and he was buried there on his death in 1509, beside his wife, Elisabeth of York. It was a statement abo...ut royal beneficence, patronage and taste. After his death, his son, Henry VIII, commissioned a tomb and chose Pietro Torrigiani as the sculptor. The video analyses the reasons for the building of the chapel and the tomb as well as the artistry of their construction. Part II: Renaissance Architecture and the Scottish Court In Scotland, during the reigns of James IV and V, some of the royal residences were transformed into forms of Renaissance palaces. The video poses the question 'What is meant by Renaissance' in Scotland at this time?'. Style of building: of court management: planning and function of the buildings? Three palaces are visited: Linlithgow, Falkland and Stirling.
