Description
This is the second of two films looking at the work of Dr. Michael Rose of the University of Bath. His study is concerned to explore with active trades unionists their attitudes towards multinatio...nal companies, and what, if anything, they feel trades unionists can do internationally to respond to the fact of the multinationals' existence. In Programme 2 we concentrate on two fairly senior elected trades unions officials, one in France and one in England. The French language is subtitled in English.

Footage description: This programme gives a more detailed impression of the interviews conducted by Michael Rose in his study of international trade union cooperation. It consists of two interviews which give an indication of some of the problems faced by Michael Rose. In the first interview Rose talks to Jean le Monnier, a communist and Gen. Sec. of the CGT section at Montparnasse Station. He gives sophisticated, thought-out answers to the questions; mainly in terms of the class struggle and how railway workers are exploited by the state. He chooses not to discuss the day-to-day problems facing trade unionists when they try to cooperate but rather the wider socioeconomic factors which operate against union cooperation. Michael Rose now talks to Danny Connor, convenor at Fords. Although he has a political outlook it is far less structured than that of le Monnier. He talks more about the day-to-day problems of cooperation within multinational companies and the differences that exist in the union structures within different countries.
