Description
In this programme anthropologist Dr. John Corbin provides an interpretation of the painting by Pablo Picasso called Guernica, drawing on evidence from his study of Spanish culture. Specifically, he... illustrates his argument with reference to Andalusia where Picasso lived as a boy and where the programme was made. Dr. Corbin draws on examples from cultural events such as bullfights and a local fiesta to argue that an understanding of their symbolic significance can enable an anthropologist with experience of that culture to identify and interpret the symbolism contained within the painting.
