Description
This is the first programme in a series of eight and, like all the others, is divided into three case studies filmed on location in the cities of Vancouver, British Columbia; Cracow, Poland and Bir...mingham, UK. The theme of this programme is images. It examines the theory that Vancouver has developed a post-industrial urban structure. It analyses Cracow in the context of it being a socialist city and in Birmingham it looks at the various important local government initiatives in the development of the city, notably that of Joseph Chamberlain in the 19th century, and the immediate post-World War II civic reconstruction. This programme has been re-made to include an updating postscript. Allan Cochrane, acting Course Team Chairman, explains the significance of recent events in Poland.
