Description
This is the fourth programme in a series of eight and, like all the others, is divided into three case studies filmed on location in the cities of Vancouver, British Columbia; Cracow, Poland and Bi...rmingham U.K. Here we look at the dynamics of change in city centres. In Vancouver we examine the phenomenal rate of development and the hypothesis of there being a cycle of growth. In Cracow we consider how far the city centre is different in a city where free market forces do not operate. In Birmingham, we take as an example of development, plans to redevelop the old Great Western Railway's Snow Hill site, close to the city's office district. This programme has been re-made to include an updating postscript. Allan Cochrane, acting Course Team Chairman, explains the significance of recent events in Poland. This programme has been re-made a second time to take another look at the Snow Hill site, and to talk to Brian Ashby the developer and Councillor Chapman the Chairman of the Planning Committee to see how four years later the development is progressing.
