Description
This is a discussion on medicine and the law led by Diana Brahams who is a barrister-at-law, editor of the Medico-Legal Journal and legal correspondent to The Lancet. The participants are Raanan Gi...llon (doctor and editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics), Michael Drummond (health economist), Jack Dowie and Beverley Hunt. Diana Brahams introduces the discussion by outlining the current legal position regarding "informed consent' and by arguing for a "no-blame" system of compensation for adverse consequences of medical intervention. The discussion covers, inter alia: informed consent; the "prudent patient" standard; the "respected body of medical opinion" standard; the nature of legal damages.
