Description
This programme looks at the experience of three mothers, all of whom work for the Open University at Milton Keynes, and have one child under school age. The jobs done by the women vary widely: one ...is a pensions clerk, another a lecturer in chemistry and the third a part-time cleaner for the contract cleaning company which services the Open University. Filmed interviews show that these women all carry the major responsibility for child care, but differences in the rates of pay and conditions affect the way they combine the roles of worker and mother. Angela Coyle of the Women And Work Unit at Aston University comments on these interviews in the light of research carried out in this area.
