Description
This programme continues Neil Postman's thesis that childhood is disappearing as a result of watching television. The programme outlines his argument but then goes on to show that children are not ...passive receivers of their culture but active agents in their own socialisation and television plays a part in this. The programme uses the arguments of Carolyn Steedman and Judith Ennew to show how children actively participate in their world. Carolyn Steedman uses children's writing to highlight this issue and Judith Ennew uses different culture to explore her beliefs. We focus on children in Jamaica and Peru - we show their drawings and essays which demonstrate how children view the world.
