Description
This programme examines the work of Health Visitors and how they understand their role. It considers whether their efforts to meet health needs may be mediated by particular cultural views of child...hood and motherhood which influence the theory and practice of health visiting. Two health visitors are shown visiting mothers and children at home in the Plymouth area and later talk about what they are doing. Jean Orr, lecturer in nursing at Manchester University and Pamela Abbott, researcher at Plymouth Polytechnic are interviewed about some of the tensions inherent in the role of health educator.
