Description
The programme considers the implications of deafness for the acquisition of language. At a special school for the deaf in Hertfordshire the interaction between teacher & child is examined in gr...oups of children aged 5-7 and 9-11. The equally important home school nexus is revealed in scenes between a mother and her 6 year old deaf son and her 2 year old hearing daughter. To be deaf from birth can stunt the whole growth of personality and intelligence. In learning about deaf children we can learn more about the cognitive and affective development of normal children than by almost any other method.
