Description
This programme examines the beginnings of memory in the young child. An example of a sophisticated adult memory at work, using an extract from Proust's 'A la rechereche du temps perdu' is seen init...ially. The programme goes on to focus on several young children as they are presented with tasks which show whether they understand the permanence of an object. As in TV9, the filming was done in Dundee University. Dr. Peter Willatts explains the experiments shown and relates the work of the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget to the general state of knowledge about chidren's thinking today.
