Description
In this programme the group of isometrics is used to study space. It is shown that any isometry can be obtained through a combination of three transformations, rotation, translation and reflection.... The sub-group of symmetry is used to explore the isometry group in more detail.

Footage description: The first part of the programme shows that this Geometry can be studied via a Group of Isometries (i.e. a Group of distance preserving transformations from three space to itself). The second part of the programme investigates this group in two ways. Firstly, it is shown that any isometry can be obtained by a Rotation followed by a Translation, possibly then followed by a Reflection. Secondly, the idea of Symmetry is used to identify certain. Subgroups of the Isometry Group, ending with the Subgroup which represents the Symmetry Group of a Regular Tetrahedron.
