Footage description: | The programme begins with Irene Dodd, explaining how she made the decision to buy and share a house with her son and his family. Robin and Eugenie Dodd talk about the advantages to be had in sharing a house, how they had to alter the building slightly and how it solved the problem of Robin's mother living on her own. Irene Dodd describes some of the problems she has had to face since she moved into the house mainly with noise. Robin describes the problems he has because of his position between the two families. Eugene describes an incident when she felt excluded from Robin's family. The Dodd family are seen at a dinner party. Irene and Eugenie discuss some of the problems of sharing the house. Robin and Irene describe some advantages and problems with house sharing such as keeping account of bills and maintaining the house. Eugenie talks about the advantage of having Irene at home to mind the children whilst she is at work. Irene describes how she looks after the children if their parents are not at home. Finally we see the two children having breakfast in their grandmother's flat. Eugenie explains that it is good for the children to see how older people live. |
