Footage description: The programme opens with film of Mr Hammond, a middle-school teacher, explaining a project to his class. They are to interview members of the local community prior to writing reports about the community. Short sequence in which governor Peter Clifford as a chance meeting with a parent who requests further information about the community project. Film of schoolchildren interviewing stall-holder in a local street. Clifford is seen observing the children and asking shopkeepers what they think of the project. Most are very cooperative but one complains angrily. Film showing Clifford discussing the school's community project with a friend who is a local newspaper reporter. Scene in which the Headmaster discusses complaints about the project with one of his staff. They speculate on Clifford's involvement. The Headaster arranges for both the reporter and Clifford to meet him at the school. Shots of Hammond discussing the progress of the project with his class. The reporter is seen discussing the project with the Headmaster, then interviewing Hammond about it all. Film of Clifford discussing the whole episode with the Headmaster. The governor explains his role in the affair. They plan a meeting for the whole community to attend to see the work the children have done on the project. An extract from a meeting of the board of governors is shown. The Headmaster, Hammond and Clifford describe the community project to the governors and comment on the need to explain it to members of the local community. The programme closes with shots of the open evening at which the locals examine the work produced in the community project. Hammond and Clifford are seen explaining the work to visitors.
