Description
This is the second of a pair of programmes about the 100th Football Association Cup Final and the way it was mediated by television. The previous programme analysed the build-up to the match on BBC... and ITV; this programme studies the codes of match coverage: the various standard shots used, the role of the commentator and expert panels - "explaining" the play and the outside broadcast set-up and its development since the 1960s. The television coverage of football is contrasted with the experience of attending a live match. Sociologist Chas Critcher and former pro-footballer and journalist, Eamon Dunphy, debate the pros. and cons. of TV's impact on the national sport.
