Description
In Britain, some 1 1/4 million people are looking after elderly disabled relatives. Most of these carers are women. This programme looks at the experience of one such woman, Ruth, looking after he...r frail 83 year old mother. The rest of the family consists of husband Bill, almost blind, and two children, a boy and a girl aged 17 and 21, both still living at home. The film shows the daily round of household and caring tasks, the responsibility and the isolation. The decision to take care of her mother interrupted Ruth's plans to return to work as a midwife as the children grew older. Interviews review the family's "conference" decision that Ruth rather than one of her three brothers was the best person to take on the caring task.
