Rio de Janeiro is best known as one of the world's most glamorous cities, but life holds little glamour for most of its inhabitants. Instead, the nine million people who live three are subject to i...nfectious diseases and malnutrition, death rates are high and life is short. This programme looks at life in Rio largely through the eyes of the people who live there, and shows how bad housing, poor nutrition, unemployment and poor sanitation are linked to the main causes of death. The programme, filmed in 1985, was specially prepared for British Students studying a major new Open University course on Health & Disease.
