Description
Movement involves co-ordinated con-traction and relaxation in many sets of muscles. Even the simplest movements are controlled by complex signals between nerves and higher centres - the brain and s...pinal cord. We look at the pathways that mediate this control. As expected studying vertebrates is difficult, but interesting information can be gained by analysing the impaired movement of people who've suffered strokes. Other, more detailed information can be found in cats trained to move on treadmills and finally to discover the role of individual nerve cells we look at work being done on flight in the locust.
