Description
'In this programme Proffessor sir George Porter gives the viewer an introduction to the chemistry of light. Many photochemical changes seem to be slow - nobody gets an instantaneous suntan, nor doe...s a tropical rainforest grow in a day. Nevertheless, many photochemical reactions are in fact very rapid indeed - light for example can cause explosions. With the use of laboratory experiments and graphic animations, Sir George explains what can happen when light is absorbed. But light absorption happens very rapidly - in less than a millioneth-millioneth of a second, and the programme concludes by putting these very small time durations in perspective.'
