Description
A photochemical reaction can involve quite a number of elementary steps, yet the whole process happens unbelievably quickly. How can we investigate these steps? Two eminent photochemists, George Ha...mmond and Nicholas Turro discuss how they approach the solving of photochemical reaction mechanisms, and look at a particular example - valerophenome. Using techniques such as absorption and emission spectroscope, gas chromatography, merry-go-round apparatus, flash photolysis and low temperature NMR, the steps in the reaction mechanism of valerophenome are mapped out. The programme shows a wide range of techniques in great detail, and also gives an insight into the philosophy of two renowned photochemists.
