Description
Some of the most important applications of photochemistry are in image recording. this programme, which is introduced by Harry Heller starts with the development of black and white photography, and... then explains the three layer principle of the colour process. This section contains some excellent animation sequences originally fimed for Kodak. Many printing processes also rely on photo chemistry and next, the diazo process (dye line machine) and photopolymer plate (offset lithography) are demonstrated. Professor Heller then explains the basis of photochromic compounds - the subject of his own research. Of course, photo chromic materials are already used in sunglasses, but more and more applications where reversible colour changes are wanted are being developed. the programme concludes by looking at a machine designed by the firm Laser Scan, which finds uses for three of the different imaging systems seen in the programme.
