This programme deals with flah photolysis in a series of sequences which explore different approaches to the experimental determination of absorption spectra using this technique. It starts with a ...single demonstration of the absorption spectrum of the excited state of dibenzanthracene. Sir George Porter then describes his developmeny of the first modern microsecond apparatus. Dr Roberts then demonstrates a modern microsecond apparatus and obtains the triplet absorption spectrum of napthalene. Using different techniques Dr Land, Dr Atherton and professor Baxendale show how the singlet spectrum of napthalene can be obtained.
