Description
This programme looks at recent theories of bird flight. Jeremy Rayner has predicted the wake created by a flying bird, and an animation sequence is used to show this. A wake visualisation experimen...t is used to confirm the wake predicted for a pigeon. The second half of the programme shows some work at Birmingham University in 1983. Professor Pat Butler and Dr.Tony Woakes rear a gaggle of Canada Geese from egg and the geese imprint onto Dr. Woakes and follow him everywhere. The scientistsdesign and build a light weight miniature transmitter which is placed in the abdomen of one of the geese to monitor vital physiological parameters.
