Description
Deforested areas in the wet tropics have been farmed in a variety of ways with different ecological and economic consequences. This programme was filmed in south east mexico in an area that until r...ecently was totally covered bt rain forest. it compares traditional 'slash and burn' subsistence agriculture and mixed cropping of small scale garden farming of a Popolucan Indian Community with high input, intensive cultivation of pineapple, tobacco and sugarcane monocultures. The effect of government land use policy is also shown to favour inefficient cattle ranching.
