Description
Man made polymers have brougth about a revolution in technology touching almost every part of contemporary life. Industrially thy derive from petroleum. This programme takes a look at just three po...lymers - polyethylene and polypropylene (addition polymers) and nylon (condensation polymer). Presenter David Roberts takes a look at the industrial manufacture of polyethylene at one of ICI's plants, and then continues his investigation under laboratory conditions. He goes on to examine polypropylene and compares the properties of the two products. Finally he introduces us to a condensation polymer, nylon, which he produces as nylon 66 in laboratory conditions and then moves away to ICI Wilton to view the industrial application.
